COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Midtown Medical Center held their 33rd annual Tree of Light ceremony Friday Dec. 6 to kick off the holiday season.

There was a drum roll, and then an cheering crowd as this year's tree lit up in the night.

Santa Claus made and appearance, and graduates of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) helped by making thank-you cards for staff members.

Shannon Slade, a member of the Parent Advisory Council at Midtown Medical Center, said, "Basically, it's just a reunion so that the NICU staff can see all of the kids, and see how they've grown, and how well they've turned out from their care. They've taken care of them from the very beginning, and they've done a great job."

During their annual giving program, the Medical Center raised $50,000. All of the money goes to the NICU.
