The 2014 Bowl Championship Series standings are official and the Auburn Tigers are headed to Pasadena to play in the national championship against No. 1 Florida State.

The Tigers came in at No. 2 in the final BCS rankings and will be playing in Pasadena on Monday, Jan. 6.

The BCS national championship was Ohio State's to lose and lose they did in the Big 10 Championship against Michigan State Saturday night.

Auburn finished 12-1 after beating Missouri 59-42 in the SEC Championship Saturday. Auburn's schedule was one of the toughest in the nation and included eight SEC wins and victories over two top five opponents and four more wins against opponents ranked in the top 25 plus an out of conference win against a bowl bound Washington State. The Tigers only loss came in the second week of the season against LSU in Baton Rouge.

Florida State finished the season undefeated and trounced Duke in the ACC Title Game Saturday night. The Seminoles beat a then No. 3 ranked Clemson team and a top 10 Miami team. Maryland and Duke were also ranked in the AP top 25 when the Seminoles won. So far this season the Seminoles have only been held to less than 40 points once, which was against in-state rival Florida. The Seminoles offense is led by Heisman Trophy front-runner Jameis Winston. Winston accounted for 42 Florida State touchdowns this season – 38 through the air.

This will be the last season of the Bowl Championship Series. The BCS will be replaced with a four-team playoff system next year.

Auburn won the BCS national championship in the 2010 season. Alabama won in 2009, 2011 and 2012, which makes this the fifth straight year an Alabama school has been to the title game.

Rose Bowl: No. 4 Michigan State vs. No. 5 Stanford – Wednesday, Jan. 1

Also playing in Pasadena will be Big Ten champion No. 4 Michigan State against PAC 12 Champion No. 5 Stanford. The Spartans' tough defense held the Buckeyes to their lowest point total of the year – allowing three touchdowns and a field goal. Ohio State averaged more than 40 points in the 12 games prior to that loss.

Fiesta Bowl: No. 6 Baylor vs. No. 15 Central Florida – Wednesday, Jan. 1

In the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Big 12 Champs No. 6 Baylor will be playing against All America Conference Champions No. 15 Central Florida. The UCF Knights won their conference championship game Saturday against the Southern Methodist Mustangs. Baylor defeated unranked Texas to win the Big 12 Saturday as well. UCF's only loss this season came by a field goal at the hands of South Carolina early this season. Baylor's offense has only been held to less than 40 points twice this season. Their only loss came from Oklahoma State in the second to last game of the regular season.

Sugar Bowl: No. 3 Alabama vs. No. 11 Oklahoma – Thursday, Jan. 2

The No. 3 Crimson Tide will also be playing in a BCS game against No. 11 Oklahoma. The Sooners have lost two games this season – the first to Texas in Austin and the second to Baylor in Waco. Alabama only lost once this season after Auburn's Chris Davis returned a short field goal for a touchdown as time expired in the Iron Bowl. The Tide has been good on both offense and defense all year averaging 38.8 points per game on offense and allowing only 11.3 points per game.

Orange Bowl: No. 7 Ohio State vs. No. 12 Clemson – Friday, Jan. 3

No. 7 Ranked Ohio State will face off against No. 12 Clemson in the second game of the final Bowl Championship series – the Orange Bowl. Clemson started off the season highly ranked until a 51-14 loss to Florida State followed by a loss to South Carolina on Nov. 30. Ohio State would have almost certainly been headed to the BCS National Championship had they been able to beat Michigan State. Both teams have high-powered offenses and good quarterbacks in Braxton Miller and Tajh Boyd.
