A multi-million dollar grant will help some West Alabama residents pay for their heating bills this winter.
Community Service Programs of West Alabama is getting $3 million from a federal grant dispersed by Governor Robert Bentley's Office.
Sontonia Stephens, Director of Support Services, says the money will aid hundreds of families. The money will be available in about a month but she says people are already contacting her group for help.
The agency gives priority to residents over 60-years-old and families with children 5-years-old and younger. Senior citizens can already make an appointment to apply for help and others can apply starting Monday. Dec. 16.
"It is a first come first serve basis program. We don't do waiting lists and we only think that's fair. We have revamped the way we schedule appointments and we have a call center which is able to accommodate more people," Stephens said.
