BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The IRS has executed a search warrant at an upscale salon and spa in Birmingham Tuesday.

IRS spokesperson Dawn Kirpatrick confirms financial records were seized Tuesday morning from the Richard Joseph SalonSpa on Highway 280 in Inverness. She would not comment further on the investigation.

The doors to the salon were locked when FOX6 News arrived at the business this afternoon. Neighboring businesses say that since about 8 a.m., clients, delivery drivers and employees have been trying to get into the salon.

A former employee has come forward and tells us that she is concerned for her retirement. Teresa Nelson showed us paycheck stubs and statements that she says proves her Social Security benefits have not been paid for 8 years. It is not clear at this time what benefits the salon may have paid.

FOX6 News also visited owner Richard Joseph's home in an attempt to reach him for comment. When our crew arrived, federal investigators were at the property and wouldn't comment about boxes they removed from the home. Neighbors tell us investigators have been there for most of the day. FOX6 has reached out to Joseph through several other means and we have yet to hear from the salon owner.

It is unclear Tuesday evening if the salon will re-open Wednesday.

FOX6 On Your Side reporter Ronda Robinson is working this story, and will have more information beginning on FOX6 News at 6 p.m.
