Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown denies reports that he is stepping down

Longhorns head coach Mack Brown and the University of Texas have denied reports that the head football coach is stepping down after 16 seasons.

Joe Jamail, Brown's longtime friend and attorney, told The Associated Press on Tuesday: "Mack Brown has not resigned." He says Brown's future with Texas is still up to the coach.

Reports from Orangebloods.com, citing two unidentified sources, suggested that Brown would step down by the end of the week. However, Brown told Horns247.com that he was in Florida recruiting.

Brown wrote to Horns247, saying, "I have decided not to step down."

The coach's future at Texas is still a major question, following an 8-4 season.  The Longhorns will meet Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on December 30.

Brown led Texas to the 2005 BCS national championship over USC.
