TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Police continue to search for a suspect connected to a fatal hit and run on Tucson's west side.

According to a Tucson Police, Antonia Calamia, 24, was hit by a vehicle sometime around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday on N. Greasewood Road south of West Speedway Boulevard.

Calamia was struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, according to one witness, she was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

A witness reported to TPD that he saw a vehicle approach from behind him at a high rate of speed, the witness moved into the southbound lanes to avoid being hit.  The speeding vehicle moved into the easement area to get around and that was when it struck Calamia, according to witness reports.   The vehicle continued on after hitting the victim, heading northbound on Greasewood and was last seen making an eastbound turn onto Speedway.

Police said a broken headlight cover recovered from the scene belongs to a 2003 or 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle involved in the hit and run is described as a red or burgundy colored with possible damage to the passenger side headlight, as well as damage to the front grill.

Anyone with information on a vehicle fitting this description is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

PCC Chancellor Lee Lambert sent this letter to staff Thursday afternoon:

Antonia Calamia was hit by a pickup truck at about 11:30 p.m. near North Greasewood Road and West Speedway Boulevard, according to the Tucson Police Department. Antonia was walking in a paved easement area on the east side of Greasewood when the incident occurred. The vehicle then left the scene.

TPD is asking for information regarding the vehicle, a red or burgundy full-size Chevrolet or GM pickup. Damage to the vehicle could include a broken passenger-side headlight and damage to the front grille. Police are asking anyone with information regarding a vehicle fitting this description to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
