Ft. Benning’s 197th Infantry Brigade discontinued

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

The 197th Infantry Brigade on Fort Benning is now discontinued.

The brigade cased its colors Thursday afternoon in a special ceremony. Casing its colors signifies the 197th no longer will have a presence on post.

Its battalions are now being restructured, and its missions will be assumed by the 316th Cavalry Brigade.

This restructuring will save the Army more than $1.6 million.

Very few military and civilian positions are affected; most have been moved to other positions on post.
