Groups voice concerns over new AL history textbooks

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A vote on the approval of new history textbooks was delayed at Thursday's Alabama Board of Education meeting after groups voiced concern over lessons on Islam.

State Superintendent Tommy Bice says a committee looks at each book to make sure the resources used align with the system's standards.

The committee found the books acceptable, but the groups Eagle Forum and Act for America were worried the books showed a bias for Islam.

Bice says he will likely give his recommendation on whether the books should be allowed in January. He wants to look at the pages in question more before voicing his opinion.
