MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The 12 News Defenders are back with a new warning on a scam targeting cell phone users.

The scam is reported as being a call received from a 1-800 number saying that the person has been selected for a discount on their bill.  The scam is designed to make you think you're interacting with Verizon.

Some users have reported being directed to a website to apply for the refund and personal information is requested on that site.

Verizon Wireless said the company will never contact you in this manner. If you are to get a refund for your bill, they would only talk to you by mail.
