Phenix City police officer struck by car while directing traffic

PHENIX CITY, AL (WSFA) -

Phenix City officials say a police officer was struck by vehicle while directing traffic Thursday.

The accident happened on Dobbs Drive at Central High School. Authorities say Officer Martin Hines Sr., who is a school resource officer, was directing the exit of traffic from the school when he was struck by a vehicle that a student was driving.

Hines suffered a broken leg and was transported to Midtown Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

The investigation into the crash in ongoing.
