Salvation Army of Columbus in need of more volunteer bell ringers

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Salvation Army red kettles and bell ringers are familiar sights and sounds this time of the year, but these days, they are also seen and heard less frequently.

The Salvation Army in Columbus says there are not enough bell ringers to solicit the usual amount of donations. They need more bell ringers to cover various locations in the area.

Major Henry Hunter with the Salvation Army of Columbus says volunteering is not as hard as people think.

"One of the problems people have is that they just think volunteers have to be there all day long," says Hunter. "That's not the case. A volunteer can get a group going with them as a team. They can get aid, and you just rotate. So, you just stand one hour, and somebody releases you."

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Salvation Army should call (706)561-9026.

Financial donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 9143 Columbus, GA 31908.
