Testing out the Stone Wave Cooker - WTVM.com-Columbus, GA News Weather & Sports

Stone Wave Cooker a hot buy

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Chris McGill was back in the kitchen this week for another 'Try It Before You Buy It' segment. This week he testing out a product that you viewers have been requesting. The Stone Wave Cooker! Does it really work as well as the TV commercial depicts?

The Stone Wave Cooker is a small pot and top with chimney made of stoneware. The commercial says it's a perfect way to make small meals such as scrambled or poached eggs and even small deserts such as lava cake, all within just a few minutes in your microwave. The product claims the opening in the top of the cooker (the 'chimney'), allows for steam to escape cooking food perfectly. I've had dozens of requests from all over the country to test this product and was finally able to find it at Walgreens for about $10.

My first test of the Stone Wave Cooker was to cook a poached egg as depicted in the TV commercial. The directions said to put a very small amount of water in the bottom of the cooker before adding the egg. I assume this is for the steam to help cook the egg all the way through. It also said to put it in the microwave for about a minute. Now, keep in mind, cooking times will vary depending on microwaves and how strong they are. After a minute, my egg wasn't quite ready enough. At least to my taste it wasn't. So I put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds. Once the cooking was done, I let it sit for a minute per the directions before pouring it out on my plate. It came out fine!

So, now on to the second test! Since I had already bought a half dozen eggs I went next to the scrambled egg test. First I whipped the eggs then added a little cheese and ready to go! In the microwave for a minute and a half and wall ah! Nicely cooked scrambled eggs.

I only tried two of the many recipes included in the Stone Wave Cooker recipe booklet, but the two I tried did come out nicely. I only had to put the poached egg back in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds before it was done to my liking.

In the end I think the Stone Wave Cooker does a good job and it's only ten bucks!
