Auburn City Council revokes business license for Jackie Lee's - WTVM.com-Columbus, GA News Weather & Sports

Jackie Lee's bar shut down in Auburn after recent deadly shooting

With the tragedy that took place this weekend at Jackie Lee's Karaoke Bar on South College St., Auburn City Council members took action and revoked the business license for the bar at Tuesday's meeting.

"I have a long list of incidences that have happened over the last several years from Public Safety. I met with Public Safety and Finance and in consultation with the City attorney, we recommend the Council revoke the business license," explains Auburn City Manager, Charlie Duggan.

20-year-old Marquez Patrick of Opelika lost his life and two other were injured after multiple gunshots were fired early Sunday morning at the bar.

Duggan says he believed the Jackie Lee's was already in the stages of closing and presented the council with a list of over 50 calls from the Police Division dating back to 2010.

"Whether it is Jackie Lee's downtown, uptown or whatever, it will be that when these incidents happen, I think they all need to be shut down," says Auburn City Councilman, Arthur Dowdell.

In other news, council approved tax abatements for four companies that will result in a combined capital investment of 35 million dollars, 79 jobs with an associated payroll of over two point two million dollars.
