IRONDALE, AL (WBRC) -

The reigning Miss Alabama made a surprise visit to a woman who won the same pageant 70 years ago and gave her one of her own crowns.

Mrs. Toula Fulford was crowned Miss Alabama in 1943, but back then her crown was made of cardboard and aluminum foil.

Current Miss Alabama Chandler Champion dropped by the Kirkwood by the River assisted living center in Irondale to surprise Mrs. Fulford with a crown that's quite an upgrade. The crown is one that Champion won in a previous competition.

"I am very excited about the crown. Can't you imagine me I had to wait all these years to get it! This is beautiful. I mean this was a surprise you little stinker you," Mrs. Fulford said, laughing.

Fulford went on to the 1943 Miss America pageant and won Miss Congeniality.
