COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Urban League of Greater Columbus has named Brooke Burgess as their new president and CEO in a special ceremony today, Dec. 20.

CEO Search Chair and Advisory Board Member Robert L Anderson said, "We are excited about the selection of Mrs. Burgess to refocus and lead the League thru this rebuilding period, and reestablishing it back to relevance in our community."

In a press release, Burgess made the following statement:

"I am truly honored and elated to accept the position of President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Columbus. I was utterly drawn to this organization for the incredible impact it makes in our community. With programs of empowerment in employment, housing, education and health, the Urban League touches lives at some of the most basic of human needs and rights. Some of the Board members and I have discussed this as a new day for our organization. In the coming months, we will secure proper funding, build strong relationships in the Greater Columbus area, strengthen our existing portfolio of programs and look for ways to become even better stewards for our causes. I cannot wait to get started!"

Burgess most recently held the position of Director of Marine Corps Family Team Building in Yuma, Ariz.

The goal of the Urban League is to help the disadvantaged achieve economic equality.
