COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

"Toby", the Yorkie that was reportedly stolen from his home Thursday night, Dec. 19, has now been returned to his owner in an emotional reunion.

Columbus police reported that someone broke into a home on Forrest Rd., stealing $14,000 worth of possessions—including Toby.

The owner, Kiekka Hamler, begged for his safe return in a story featured on News Leader Nine on Friday, Dec. 20. The story spread quickly over social media, and just a few hours after it aired, someone spotted the five lb. pooch in a neighbor's yard.

"My daughter said, 'That looks like the dog that was on the news,'" says Thyra Brown. "She said, 'The lady said the dogs name was Toby, and she was on the news crying.' I said ‘Toby.' When I said it, he came to me, and he put his head down, and I was just rubbing him."

Toby was found more than a mile away from home on Norton St.

He was taken to Columbus Animal Care and Control where he was scanned for a microchip. Fortunately, he does have a microchip, which made for an easy transition back home.

"I'm so excited!" says Hamler. "I want to thank everyone for their support [and] the prayers. Prayer goes a long way. There are good people out here. To the people who took Toby, I want to say thank you for not harming him."
