Operation Feed Birmingham grows from Instagram post

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

More than 300 people had a hot meal Monday morning and it all started with a post on Instagram.

Clinton Catlin posted a picture around Thanksgiving requesting volunteers to feed people in Birmingham. From there, Operation Feed Birmingham grew.

On Monday morning, the volunteers provided breakfast at Boutwell Auditorium. On Monday night, they will help out with the city-wide Christmas party. Organizers say Santa will even be there handing out toys.

"A lot of the kids coming tonight are from Gate City, so we wanted to make sure we could have a Christmas because, you know, the devastation that happened over there. A lot of people lost a lot and we're going to provide toys tonight for them," said Catlin.

Operation Feed Birmingham is collecting toys for tonight's party. Just drop off an unwrapped present at Boutwell Auditorium.
