COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Principal Michael Barden has spoken out after burglars broke in and stolen several pieces of media equipment from Shaw High School.

A member of the custodial staff told police he arrived at the school at 7 a.m. yesterday morning, Dec. 26, to find that one of the glass doors was broken at the main entrance on the west side of the building.

Police say the unknown person or persons stole at least seven flat screen TV monitors that were mounted to the walls of the school. Barden says the TVs were in the cafeteria, main lobby and media center.

"I just reached out to the Shaw family and ask them to pray for those who broke into the building," says Barden. "Yes, I'm disappointed, but not discouraged, definitely not defeated. We can, and will, put the pieces back together. Together, we'll make Shaw High School the best for students."

Barden says police and school security are now reviewing surveillance video, and he feels confident the thieves will be caught. This is the first break-in at Shaw High School in Barden's four years as principal.

Anyone with information regarding this crime should contact the Columbus Police Department.
