ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

By the time we grab our snacks the only sign we se is the scrolling, "Have a nice day," but soon that won't be the only thing we walk away reading. The FDA will be implementing a new health care law that requires over 10,000 vending machine companies display calorie information next to their prices. They feel it will help consumers make healthier choices.

"I think it will be effective, calorie counts on foods and in the snack machine, if people are truly concerned about their health would take notice," Willis Moffitt said.

But not everyone agrees, owner of SOWEGA Vending, Kenny Moss, says it would be expensive to create labels and time consuming, he feels it isn't worth breaking small business. For Spencer Lee he believes the labels will have a positive effect on snackers but understands how this could hurt companies.

"I think the industry will probably say 'not everybody's gonna read it,' and that may be true but it will be an opportunity to have it read and an opportunity to understand," Lee shares.

According to the FDA, if .02 percent of obese consumers were to cut 100 calories from their diet each week, it would save the health care system millions of dollars, nearly the same amount it would take to launch the program.

Moss says vending machines are for people on the go and "it's not a health machine, its a snack machine."

Lee continues, "Some of them may not be healthy but may be a little healthier  than the others for you."

Leaving it up to you to figure out if you should switch out your favorite snack for something with less numbers on the package.
