Judge George Greene dies after lengthy illness

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Judge George Greene, who served as a judge in Russell County for 34 years, was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. this morning at St. Francis Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Striffler-Hamby Mortuary will handle his funeral arrangements.

Greene announced his retirement in late 2013. He was replaced by Judge Michael Bellamy on Dec. 1.

Greene is one of the longest-serving judges in Alabama.
