SCAM ALERT: IRS warns against con artists targeting taxpayers

Even before Tax Season begins, con artists are targeting taxpayers.

The IRS is warning that scammers are calling from numbers that show-up on your caller ID as legitimate IRS numbers, saying you could be arrested, or lose your driver's license if you do not pay a tax debt immediately.

Captain Craig Dodd of the Dougherty Co. Sheriff's Office says to be extremely careful. "Make sure not to give anyone access to any of your personal identification," He says. "Don't give anybody anything on the internet as to your banking or your personal identification."

One sure sign the call is a scam is if the caller asks for any personal or banking information over the phone. The IRS will never request such information in a phone call, or try to collect money over the phone.
