BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A few months back, when analysts predicted Mississippi Power's Kemper County lignite plant would cost in excess of $5 billion, the company said that wasn't the case.

But, on Friday, Mississippi Power filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission that states the total project cost is now more than $5 billion.  The original cost estimate to build this plant was $2.8 billion.

Mississippi Power says the project's concrete, underground piping, an electrical duct bank and structural steel work are 99 percent complete. It says process piping installation is 70 percent complete and cable installation is 69 percent complete.

The Kemper County plant is slated to go on line at the end of 2014.
