San Tan Valley woman arrested after shooting husband

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pinal County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from Melisah Havens Friday night stating that she had shot her husband.

According to Tim Gaffney with Pinal County, Havens said she thought he was an intruder breaking into their vehicle, which was parked outside of their residence.

Deputies arrived on scene within minutes of the calling dispatched. When they arrived, they could hear Havens screaming "help me, help me".

Havens was kneeling over her 35-year-old husband who was laying face down in the driveway.

The victim had been shot in the chest and right hand.

The victim was transported by air ambulance to a Phoenix area trauma hospital where he immediately went into surgery. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Inside the residence, deputies observed the couple's three children (ages 12, 10, and 2). They also located a pump shotgun in the master bedroom closet.

Sheriff Paul Babeu issued this statement:

"Melisah told detectives she shot her husband because she thought he was going to burglarize her vehicle. She also said that he had taken her keys and was going to get milk. Melisah declined to provide any additional information after making these statements. The victim is currently incubated and unable to speak. Once the victim is able to talk, detectives will interview him to try and learn more about what occurred. PCSO has responded to prior domestic violence calls at this residence."

Havens was booked into the Pinal County Jail for one count of Domestic Violence/Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon.

The three children were turned over to Child Protective Services.
