CALGARY, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - Raildecks won a major victory in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in December 2013, when the Patent Office confirmed the validity of two Raildecks patents covering its collapsible intermodal flatrack system. Fontaine Engineered Products, Inc. (a division of Fontaine Trailers) had petitioned the Patent Office to invalidate U.S. Patent Nos. 8,353,647 and 8,342,784. Raildecks aggressively refuted Fontaine's claims, and the Patent Office found that Fontaine's arguments for invalidity were without merit. As a result, the petitions were denied outright, and both patents were upheld.
Also in December, the Patent Office issued U.S. Patent No. 8,608,415 - Raildecks fourth U.S. Patent. Each of Raildecks' issued patents cover different aspects of its collapsible intermodal flatrack platforms. Raildecks also has several other applications on file, including one that has been approved and that should issue as its fifth U.S. patent within the first quarter of 2014. In addition, Raildecks has received word from patent offices in both Canada and Australia indicating that Raildecks will be receiving patent rights in those countries covering aspects of the Raildecks' intermodal platform system.
These events further confirm Raildecks' preeminent position in intermodal collapsible flatrack technology, strengthen its patent portfolio, and will help it protect its position in the market long into the future.
