Fort Benning heavy weapons training to resume Jan. 22

Posted: Updated:

Heavy weapons training will resume in Fort Benning's northeast quarter on Jan. 22 and continue through Feb. 25. as units conduct required training activities.

Community members may notice the noise increase during this timeframe.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence says they fire 42.2 million rounds each year, more than all other installations, as a necessary part of training the greatest fighting force in the world.

A statement released by Fort Benning on Jan. 21 says, "All of this firing is necessary to train the greatest fighting force in the world. Every day, tens of thousands of Soldiers are deployed to combat environments, and the training they receive at the Maneuver Center ensures they are equipped with the skills necessary to achieve victory against our Nation's enemies.

In the days ahead, Fort Benning will continue to abide by the laws that govern our activities while maintaining our strong relationships with our community partners.  Our challenge is to balance our Soldiers' training requirements with the needs of the community."
