HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

Fire officials in Ellerslie, Ga. are investigating a fire that broke out at around 4:30 a.m. inside a Harris County house. When the Ellerslie and Waverly Hall volunteer fire departments arrived at the scene half of the house was engulfed in flames.

The home is located on the 600 block of Deer Run Rd.

The Ellerslie Fire Chief believes seven people were inside at the time. One of the women in the house was on her way to the bathroom when she smelled smoke and then saw the fire. She woke up the children and was able to get them out of the house.

None of the family members were injured, however debris from the attic fell on top of a firefighter at the scene. That firefighter is expected to recover.

The family pet has yet to be recovered. It is unknown if that pet perished in the fire or ran away.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The family lost all of their belongings. The Ellerslie Fire Chief is requesting grocery store gift cards for the family so they can buy food for their children and other necessities. If you have any items to donate, they can be dropped off at 3717 Georgia Hwy 85 in Ellerslie. The business is located next to the fire station. If you have any questions, call 706-577-9481.

A donation account has been established for the family at CB&T named the Ellerslie Fire Department Relief Fund. Donations can be made at any CB&T location and the proceeds will go toward helping the family.

The group Eminent Worship will be taking donations at North Highland Church in Columbus from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
