PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -

A facility that has provided provide assistance for Yarnell residents who lost homes and belongings in a deadly wildfire last summer is preparing to close.

United Way of Yavapai County spokeswoman J.J. McCormack says the need for the Yarnell Relief Center has decreased now that residents have been steadily moving back into their homes.

The Daily Courier reports that people who visit the center are being asked to take items for donation to other charities.

McCormack says the United Way is working on a plan to distribute donated nearly $500,000 collected for the Yarnell relief fund.

The Yarnell Hill Fire destroyed more than 100 homes in the Yarnell area, and 19 firefighters perished when the fire overtook their position.
