RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor announced Monday Jan. 13 he is running for re-election.
Sheriff Taylor is a democrat and has been at the department for 26 years. He is currently running unopposed.
The last qualifying day to run for office is February 2.
Sheriff Taylor says if someone does decide to run against him, he will launch a full campaign.
"One thing I've learned is it doesn't matter if somebody gets in this race, you have to run wide-open for the position," said Sheriff Taylor.
Sheriff Taylor told us if re-elected for another term, he hopes to help save the public's tax dollars at prisons.
