COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Accomplishing retirement goals can be especially tricky for women because they often face gender-specific financial challenges.
Women consist of 47 percent of the workplace but face unique challenges that men do not have. Because women generally do not make as much money as men, they do not have as much money saved for retirement.
Another thing to consider is the fact that women are generally the primary caregivers for their children and parents. Some women may take themselves out of the workplace for a period of time to address these extra responsibilities.
Because women live longer than men, they usually do not have as many resources to make their savings last their entire lives.
A special event is being held to help women learn retirement strategies that will benefit them. At the seminar, women will learn tips such as the benefits of participating in a workplace plan and the benefit of investments.
The retirement strategies for women seminar will be held on Jan. 18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbus Public Library in the Synovus CB&T Room.
The event is free of charge but reservations should be made ahead of time. To register, visit the website my.valic.com/seminars and use the registration code 2880COL11AF.
