COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Funeral arrangements have been made for the homeless Columbus man who died because of last week's cold weather snap.

Paul Garner, 51, died from hypothermia on Jan. 7. His body was found in an empty lot not far from a shelter.

A service is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus. The cemetery is located on 4161 Macon Rd.

Rev. John Boulineau, a chaplain with the Open Door Community House, will officiate.

The funeral was made possible thanks to donations from Garner's former classmates and the community.

Officials nationwide say more than 20 people died last week as a result of the polar vortex.

Garner was a Baker High graduate.
