PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A fourth suspect in a January armed robbery during which an officer and a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office posse member were wounded has been brought to Phoenix.

Williams Herbert Mayes arrived at the Maricopa County Jail on Thursday night from New York City, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

The arrest of Mayes in New York City about 11 p.m. Jan. 28 was the result of "actionable intelligence," a coordinated effort involving police departments across the nation, said Phoenix police Chief Daniel Garcia.

He was arrested by the NYPD's Bronx Homicide Unit on a warrant charging him with conspiracy to commit armed robbery in Phoenix.

"We needed quick closure on these arrests," Garcia said. "We needed to bring these folks to justice."

Officer Scott B. Sefranka, 34, was critically wounded and has been released from the hospital and continues to recover from his wounds, Thompson said. Sefranka has been on the Phoenix police force since September of 2006.

MCSO posse member Phillip Grigg, 63, who was also shot, remained in critical condition in a Phoenix hospital on Feb. 7, Thompson said. He has been in and out of surgery since being shot in his chest at close range and has undergone multiple surgeries in an effort to save his life. He is a father of two and grandfather of three.

It's unclear whether Mayes had any ties in the New York area, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

No other detailed information about his actual arrest was made public.

Earlier Wednesday, three men previously arrested and jailed pleaded not guilty in connection with the Dec. 31 incidents.

Roger Sharp, 26, of Phoenix, and David Murray, 36, of Tempe, entered their pleas at their respective arraignments in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Sharp faces two counts of armed robbery, two counts of prohibited weapons, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of burglary, one count of unlawful flight and one count of resisting arrest.

Murray faces two counts of armed robbery.

Jason Beau Keep waived his appearance for his arraignment but his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. He is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

All three are expected to appear in court next on Feb. 27.

Police said Sharp and Murray robbed two employees of the Pink Rhino Cabaret at gunpoint of $18,000 in the parking lot of an IHOP restaurant at 2501 N. 44th St. about 2 p.m. The employees were on their way to deposit the club's proceeds.

The suspects took off in a maroon sedan when a Phoenix officer in a marked vehicle with a civilian observer saw the getaway vehicle and tried to make a stop.

The suspects sped off and slammed into a white pickup truck driven by the posse member at 56th Street and Thomas Road.

After the crash, Sharp, who was driving the vehicle, came after the officer. Grigg, who was the driver of the pickup truck, got out of his vehicle to help subdue Sharp.

During the struggle, Sharp took the officer's gun and shot the officer and posse member, according to police.

With four arrests made, police said no more suspects are being sought in the case, police said.
