Highway reopened after gas leak

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, GA (CBS46) -

Lawrenceville Highway by DeKalb Industrial Way in Decatur was reopened at 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

At 4 p.m. a gas leak forced the closure of part of the road, causing traffic backups throughout the area.

Drivers reported 20 minute commutes taking upwards of three hours.

According to the DeKalb County Fire Department, a contractor hit a 2" line that caused the gas leak. The gas company shut off the three valves to the line, but had to wait for the line to bleed out and the gas to dissipate.

A nearby car dealership was evacuated because it was in the immediate area. There are no injuries and DeKalb County Fire-Rescue said they did not receive any complaints relating to the gas. Gas service was not affected.
