COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Coroner Buddy Bryan made a public announcement today, Jan. 16, inviting the public to a funeral taking place tomorrow for a Columbus man who froze to death during last week's unusually cold weather.

Paul Garner, 51, was the homeless man whose body was found in an empty lot located only a short distance from a homeless shelter. He died of hypothermia.

"We've received hundreds of calls from concerned citizens," says Bryan. "[Many people] loved Paul. They actually made the statements that he was a fine young man who fell on hard times."

A group of alumni from Baker High School has worked together to provide for Garner's funeral.

The graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Park Hill Cemetery.
