Family Theater raising dyslexia awareness with "Hard to Spell Dad" performances

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Family Theater in Columbus is raising awareness about dyslexia this week with a play called Hard to Spell Dad.

The show captures the difficulties and often misunderstood world of dyslexia, a major learning disability that is the most common cause of reading, writing and spelling difficulties.

"We're very excited about this play to help raise awareness, says Courtney Riggin, a teacher at Brookstone School. "Even if other students can see it, I think it would help them understand that they're all different, and some of their peers might be struggling with exactly what's going on this play."

The performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. today, Jan. 17, and tomorrow, Jan. 18, at Family Theater located at Rose Hill Baptist Church off Hamilton Rd. in Columbus. Reservations are recommended.

Family Theater is also hoping to bring the show to several schools in the area.
