Columbus man accused of rape appears in Superior Court for bond hearing

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus man accused of raping an unconscious woman was back in court this morning, Jan. 17, for a bond hearing.

The case of 24-year-old Joshua Russell is now in Superior Court, where he appeared today backed by 50 friends and family members.

Russell is accused of raping a 20-year-old woman at a house party. The woman said she drank so much that night that she didn't remember the rape, only that she woke-up with her pelvic area sore and a bruise on her face.

Both the District and Defense attorneys presented arguments regarding the bond today in court. When the victim was asked why the suspect should not be granted a bond, she responded that she did not want to be worried or scared.

The Judge told her she would have to deal with the incident whether he was in jail or not.

No bond was given in the hearing, but one is expected before the end of the day.
