ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Lights of Love campaign exceeds expectations. The annual holiday fundraising effort by the Junior women's club of Albany and Phoebe foundation raised more than 70 thousand dollars.

The money will be used to upgrade waiting area's in Phoebe's radiation and oncology department. Hospital leaders will consult with patients on what they would like to have in their new rooms along with experts on soothing colors, comfortable and durable furniture.

VP of Oncology Services Linda VanderMerwe says, "If we can make that experience of coming in to see an oncologist, talking about the treatment, what are we going to do how do we interact with them. If we can make that experience pleasant, comfortable, soothing, that's the least we can do for them."

Hospital officials say they're grateful to Lights of Love for years of support. Planning sessions for the improvements will begin next week. They hope to be finished before summer.
