First Alert Weather: mild and sunny for the MLK holiday, then sharply colder

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Expect a warming trend for Sunday and MLK Day. A cold front - with a shot of arctic air behind it - will bring a much chillier change starting Tuesday. Details...

MLK HOLIDAY: Expect mostly sunny skies, southwest breezes mainly 10 to 15mph, and growing temperatures (30s and 40s near and just after daybreak, 50s for midday, and highs mainly in the low 60s for the afternoon).  Enjoy your holiday, it will be nice!

TUESDAY: Variable clouds will yield a 30 to 40% chance of showers (mostly rain but possibly a snow shower Tuesday night as cold air filters in). To that last point: expect daytime highs in the mid 50s with temperatures crashing to the 20s Tuesday night!

EXTENDED FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS: A dry and cold Wednesday is likely with daytime highs only in the 30s! For the remainder of the week, chilly daytimes (40s) and freezing cold mornings (10s and 20s) are likely - along with low precipitation chances.
