SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Saturday, the MLK 5K and Music Festival came to Forsyth Park to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by helping out the community with fun and good health.

Organized by Blessings in a Bookbag, a local organization dedicated to helping less fortunate children by packing their bags with easy to prepare, non-perishable food.

While there was the race and great music, the festival featuring an informational health fair, as well as physical activities and much more. The goal of the day was to promote healthy living.

100% of the donations at the event will go to benefit the children and their families, and organizers hope to turn this into an annual event.

If you wish to assist Blessings in a Bookbag to help less fortunate families in our area, you can volunteer to pack bags or pick up donations, by giving food (every little bit counts), or donating yourself to the organization.

You can find more information about donating and volunteering at www.blessingsinabookbag.com.
