LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Firefighters in West Tennessee are investigating the heartbreaking deaths of a mother and her three kids who were killed in an early morning house fire in Gates, Tennessee in Lauderdale County.

Investigators say 26-year-old Amanda Springer and her three daughters were killed in the fire on Hamil Street late Friday night in their home.

A neighbor tells Action News 5 that she woke up to the sounds of screaming. When she looked out her window, she saw a police car and about 10 to 15 minutes later fire crews arrived.

She says black smoke was coming from the house; it could be seen for blocks.

Neighbor Peggy Torres said, "I've been up since. I haven't been to bed, I felt so bad for these people."

Fire crews were on scene until about 5 o'clock Saturday morning.

Friends of the family say Springer had 3-year-old twins and a 5-year-old. Friends say she was a loving mother, who had a lot of pride in her family. They also say she had a lot of friends.

Friends who have contacted Action News 5 said they have started a memorial fund at the Bank of Halls to help pay for their funerals. Donations can be made in Amanda Springer's name.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
