AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

Nearly 30 thousand dogs enter kill shelters every year in the CSRA. But one group was trying to bring those numbers down Saturday.

Team Stinkykiss Shelter Rescue's Adoption drive kicked off at the Aiken Tractor Supply Company.

The drive was full of cute faces waiting for forever homes. But director Angie Benfield said welcoming in potential pet parents is a small way to solve a big problem in the area.

Benfield said, "If you look at the statistics, it's roughly 30 thousand a year that enter our kill shelters."

Benfield said  the shelters have different kill rates. Some will kill at 50 percent capacity, others 75 and up. Shelters, she said, try their best, but are often maxed out.

Still, Benfield and her team weren't giving the dogs away.

Benfield said,  "We allow them to fill out applications and then we'll conduct home visits with them at a later date."

You can visit Team Stinkykiss on Facebook, OR CHECK OUT THE DOGS ON Petfinder and Rescue Me.  The canine $125 adoption fee covers heartworm testing, spay or neuter, vaccinations and microchipping.
