Winter wedding for an Ascension Parish couple

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

The icy, cold weather, road closures and sightings of snow were not going to keep this Ascension Parish couple from getting hitched.

Bride-to-be Wendi Lobell and groom-to-be Chris Aucoin are both from the east side of Ascension Parish. Their wedding was scheduled Friday night at the Ascension of Our Lord Church located in Donaldsonville, La. on the west side of the parish.

But there was a slight problem. How were they going to get there? Of course, traditional superstition dictates that it is bad luck to see the bride before the wedding. So the couple took separate vehicles and tried to cross the Sunshine Bridge, but it was closed. And the traffic delays were no help at all.

Both had to drive all the way to the Luling Bridge – just about 50 miles outside of Donaldsonville.

With the wedding starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight, the bride made it there just in time. But there was no groom! However, Chris Aucoin arrived at the church at around 7:30.

Tonight, Lobell and Aucoin are officially Mr. and Mrs. Chris Aucoin. Congratulations to the winter wedding newlyweds!
