For the first time, New Orleans voters went to the polls to elect the city council's two at large members in different races.

FOX 8 News and nola.com have projected current New Orleans City Council at-Large Stacy Head beat out challenger Eugene Green in Division 1. Head won the seat in a special election in 2012.

Head ran on a platform that she wants to continue to raise the quality of living in the city. Green is a former city economic development chief in former Mayor Marc Morial's administration. He later served as chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson.

In the Division 2 race, the city council woman for District D, Cynthia Hedge-Morrell is in a runoff with attorney Jason Williams. They beat out another attorney, Ernest Charbonnet.

Before all council at-large candidates ran together and the top two vote getters won. U.N.O. political analyst Ed Chervenak believes the new system helped voters.

"I think they were actually more confused about the old system where you had to provide two votes in that election," Chervenak said. "I think there will be more clarity this time around."
