COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Muscogee County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms that Sheriff Captain Larry Tew, 55, has died over the weekend at his home in Midland.  He was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon.

His death is being ruled an accident, but investigators are not telling us what kind of accident, citing the family's privacy.

But based on the fact that his body is not being sent to Atlanta for an autopsy, we can tell you that investigators are very certain they know his exact cause of death and they do not believe anything criminal or suspicious took place.

If there was question about what happened, they would seek additional help from forensic experts.

Tew worked served in the Sheriff's department for 35 years.

His funeral arrangements are being planned by Striffler-Hamby.
