Fort Benning to dedicate new Chaplain Counseling Center

The newly renovated Chaplain Counseling Center, located behind the Benning Club, will be dedicated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at Building 974 on Lincoln St.

The $2.9 million renovation houses nine counseling rooms, five classrooms, a library, lobby, staff offices, a kitchen, a large student area and two rooms dedicated to quiet meditation and prayer. This is where Family Life Chaplains will be trained to provide pastoral care and counseling to Soldiers and their Families.

The center has trained 110 Army, five Air Force, two National Guard and hundreds of civilian interns since the first class of six graduated in 1995. More than 2,100 one-on-one counseling sessions are conducted annually to Soldiers, Family members and retirees by individuals training at the center.

Director of Soldier and Family Ministries Chaplain COL Joe Melvin, and Fort Benning's Garrison Commander COL Michael S. Huerter will cut the ribbon at the dedication ceremony.
