Feds seize $2.5M worth of pot in AZ in 2 days

TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

As much as 4,800 pounds of marijuana worth more than $2.4 million was seized in two days by federal agents in southern Arizona.

They also arrested 14 undocumented immigrants and recovered two stolen pick-up trucks.

Casa Grande Station agents responding to detection technology near Pisinemo discovered two abandoned pick-up trucks Tuesday evening.

They said the vehicles contained a combined 3,583 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $1,791,500. Records checks revealed the trucks had been reported stolen by the Phoenix Police Department.

Early Tuesday, Ajo Station agents and a fixed-wing aircraft crew responded to detection technology near the village of Pia-Oik. The agents located 1,216 pounds of abandoned marijuana worth an estimated $608,000. Agents later apprehended 14 undocumented immigrants about one mile from the bundles of marijuana.

The stolen vehicles were turned over to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The marijuana will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
