Cougars top Tuskegee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Columbus State used a 13-hit attack including a 6-for-6 performance by Blake Edwards en route to an 11-1 victory over Tuskegee on Wednesday afternoon at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Ala. 

Four CSU pitchers limited Tuskegee (2-1) to just one unearned run. Jordan Villhauer started the game for the Cougars tossing three innings while punching out six. Riley Presnell (1-0) was rewarded with the victory in his collegiate debut on Wednesday pitching the middle three innings of the game. The lefty freshman allowed just one unearned run. 

Robert Hayes also made his collegiate debut on Wednesday throwing two innings while Jake Ezell threw the ninth. 

At the plate, Edwards led the way with a perfect 6-for-6 day for Columbus State (2-2). Brendan Collins continued the good start to his season recording another multi-hit performance while Jackson Oliver added two hits. 

In the ninth, Dustin Averett drove in the final three runs of the game on a bases clearing double. 

Columbus State will now get set for its home opener on Saturday against Lynn. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET at Ragsdale Field.
