PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man in the middle of a Phoenix street was in critical condition after he was run over by an unsuspecting motorist driving to work Thursday morning.

Police said the incident happened about 6 a.m. at 100 W. Euclid Ave., in the area of Central Avenue and Dobbins Road.

Police Lt. Chris Moore said the man was about 21 years old, but police didn't know what he was doing in the street.

Impairment didn't appear to be a factor, Moore said, but darkness might have played a role.

He said the driver was on his way to get coffee and that he was unsure what he hit.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.

No other information was immediately available.
