Victim punched, robbed on VCU campus early Tuesday morning

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Police are investigating an early-morning robbery that took place on VCU's campus Tuesday.

According to police, three suspects approached the victim around 12:25 a.m. at the 300 block of Shafer Street and demanded they hand over their possessions. The victim was then punched, and his backpack, wallet and cell phone were taken.

There were no reported injuries or weapons displayed. Following the robbery, increased VCU police patrols could be seen around Grace, Shafer and Belvidere.

VCU is encouraging students to take advantage of the university's RamSafe transportation service. The program's contact number is 804-828-SAFE or 804-828-7233.
