PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A motorcyclist was in critical condition at a Phoenix hospital after he struck a garbage truck that pulled in front of him Thursday afternoon.

The motorcyclist was going east on Deer Valley Road when the truck pulled out of a private drive of the Carefree Transfer Station at 1855 E. Deer Valley Rd. about 12:30 p.m., Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said.

Crump said the garbage truck driver failed to yield to the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Impairment was not involved, Crump said, and the investigation was continuing.
