SAN DIEGO, Feb. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Symptom Media announced plans today to expand their Behavioral Health Video Learning distribution base by applying for a GSA Schedule and actively pursuing federal contracts. Government officials utilize GSA Schedules as a means of procuring goods and services knowing that companies on these schedules have been qualified and thoroughly vetted by the General Services Administration (GSA).

"With the national conversation focused on mental health and military veterans, this library represents a departure from your traditional "how to" video; the training library answers the key question posed by the current administration and legislative bodies regarding cost effective training tools that can educate all sectors of society about mental health related issues," states Donald Fidler, MD, FRCP-I, Co-Founder & Senior Clinical Consultant at Symptom Media. He continues: "Universities such as Yale are using Symptom Media's high quality, clinically accurate training films to provide a dynamic visual reference tool that easily integrates into training programs."

Karen Wall, MA, RN-BC, BSN, Maj, US Army, (Ret), adds: "I especially love using Symptom Media to teach newly licensed registered nurses about the exciting world of mental health nursing. The videos are also a great way for experienced nurses to review their knowledge and skills in a short, entertaining way. My other favorite use of the videos is to provide education to veterans who are struggling with mental illness." Ms. Wall is a Mental Health Nurse Educator at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Marriage and Family Therapy Intern, and a Doctoral Candidate at Argosy University.

Symptom Media brings behavioral and mental health education into the twenty-first century with an expanding library of clinical training vignettes guided by the DSM (updated Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and ICD (the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Health Problems) as well as other real life behavioral health case scenarios. These tools illustrate symptoms unfolding on screen and provide visual points of reference for mental health education in a media-centric learning environment.  Their training library can also be integrated into police, fire, first responder, emergency room, and classrooms. Symptom Media's film library is used to better understand, analyze, discuss, and most importantly, recognize symptoms and patterns of behavior from both the patients and clinicians perspective.
